Anaya had been interested in design and creative work since her teenage years. Her family supported her talent, but she always assumed that art was something she would pursue only in her free time and could never become part of her professional future.
While attending university, she began sharing some examples of her work online. The feedback she received encouraged her to learn more about digital marketing, audience engagement, and building a portfolio. Gradually, she began receiving requests for small design projects and earned her first independent income from a skill she had never previously taken seriously.
Anaya’s journey is still at an early stage. She has not built a large company or achieved success overnight. But she has learned that even a small talent, when combined with education, persistence, and opportunity, can grow into a new path in life.

Building Possibility in Yemen

Basma grew up in a family in Yemen that had faced years of war, economic instability, and limited employment opportunities. To help support her family, she sometimes made handicrafts and small homemade products, but she did not know how to find customers or expand her work beyond her local community.
In 2023, Basma participated in several online Women Empowerment Program sessions focused on English language learning, online business, and basic business skills. She was introduced to concepts such as product presentation, customer communication, pricing, responsible use of social media, and basic business planning.
A few months later, she created a small online page to showcase her products and began experimenting with new ways to sell and communicate with customers. Her income did not change overnight, but the most important change was in how she viewed her work. She no longer saw her home-based activities simply as a hobby, but as a skill she could gradually develop into something more.

A New Path Forward

Maryam was 20 years old and believed that the path ahead of her was clear: continue university, find a job, and help support her family. But as conditions changed in Afghanistan, her education was interrupted, and for months she spent most of her time at home. She says the hardest part was not only losing access to the classroom; she also felt that her connection to the future had been cut off.
A few months later, she discovered online learning opportunities and decided to dedicate several hours each day to learning again. She participated in programs on time management, communication, and professional skills, and gradually created a structured daily routine for herself. Later, she began helping a few younger girls learn English and use online educational resources.
Education did not remove the challenges around her, but it changed the direction of her days. Today, Maryam remains in Afghanistan and continues working to pursue her education and develop new skills through online opportunities.

Finding Her Voice

Sara had always been interested in writing, but she never imagined that her words could have value for others. After educational opportunities became more limited, she increasingly felt isolated and wrote many of her concerns and experiences only in her personal notebook.
As she continued participating in online learning, she was introduced to topics such as communication, writing, and awareness of women’s rights. One assignment asked her to write about a personal experience in the form of a short article. That simple exercise encouraged her, for the first time, to share her writing with others.
She continued writing afterward and says she learned that writing is not only a way to describe problems; it can also be a tool for reflection, learning, and connecting with others.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Laila had worked for years to pursue a university education. When her formal path to education was interrupted, she felt for some time that all her previous efforts had been wasted. She even put her books aside and no longer had a clear structure for her days.
In late 2022, one of her friends introduced her to online learning opportunities. At first, she participated in only one short workshop, but she soon became interested in language courses, digital skills, and professional development. For the first time, she learned how to use online tools for research, education, and communication with others.
Later, Laila created a small online group with several other girls and began sharing useful educational resources she discovered. A journey that had begun with the interruption of her formal education continued in a different way—through learning, connection, and collaboration.

Starting Again in Connecticut

Noor, an Arabic-speaking woman from the Middle East, faced one of the most difficult periods of her life after moving to Connecticut: starting over in an environment where the language, systems, and even simple daily tasks were unfamiliar. Visiting her child’s school, speaking with staff at an office, or even asking a question in a store could feel stressful.
She first joined an English-language learning program and later participated in sessions focused on communication and everyday life skills. Practicing conversations, writing simple emails, and learning practical expressions gradually helped her build confidence.
A few months later, Noor was able to handle many of the tasks she had previously depended on others to complete. She says her greatest achievement was not only improving her English, but also developing a growing sense of independence in her everyday life.
