Women Empowerment Program
Education. Skills. Opportunity. Connection.
Since 2021, creating accessible learning opportunities for women and girls to build knowledge, practical skills, and stronger pathways to education, work, and leadership.
Women Empowerment Program
Launched in 2021, the Women Empowerment Program is one of GEN’s longest-running educational initiatives. It began by supporting Afghan women and girls and women from Middle Eastern communities, and today serves women in the United States and internationally—particularly those facing barriers to education, professional growth, and opportunity.
Through programs ranging from a few hours to several weeks, months, and longer-term one- and two-year learning pathways, participants gain practical education in leadership, management, digital and financial literacy, online business and entrepreneurship, languages, writing, professional skills, arts and vocational learning, human rights awareness and women’s rights education, and other relevant areas.
The program also highlights innovative and accomplished women through GEN’s platforms and helps participants connect with knowledge, mentors, opportunities, and wider communities beyond their immediate environment.
HerCreate Global is an initiative of the Women Empowerment Program that highlights women and girls from diverse backgrounds and life experiences. It is not limited to women with academic or business achievements; it also recognizes mothers, entrepreneurs, students, professionals, artists, community advocates, and women who have demonstrated courage, resilience, determination, or initiative in overcoming life’s challenges.
Selected participants may be featured through GEN’s website, social media, and digital platforms, where their stories, experiences, work, and achievements are shared with a wider audience. Some featured women may also be invited to participate in GEN Talks to share their journeys, perspectives, and experiences with a broader community.
If you have an inspiring story, meaningful achievement, initiative, business, professional or community contribution, creative work, or life experience that reflects perseverance and positive impact, we invite you to complete the form below and submit relevant information and supporting materials for review.

A Path Through Uncertainty
Published: August 2022
After the major changes in Afghanistan, a young woman who had been working toward her education and future suddenly found many of those opportunities closed. Like countless other girls, she faced uncertainty, isolation, and the painful reality of having her academic plans interrupted. She worried that the years she had spent studying and preparing for her future might no longer lead anywhere.
In 2021, during this difficult period, she learned about the Women Empowerment Program and joined its free online educational activities. Through the program, she was able to continue learning from home and participate in courses focused on time management, personal development, communication, leadership, and other practical skills. The program also gave her an opportunity to remain connected with other learners and educators at a time when access to education had become increasingly limited.
She says the experience helped her regain confidence, organize her goals, and continue thinking about her future with greater hope and determination. Although the challenges around her did not disappear, continuing to learn reminded her that her personal growth did not have to stop.
Today, she continues to pursue her education and personal goals, carrying forward the skills, confidence, and sense of possibility she developed through the program.

The Resistance of Satuda Qureshi
Published: February 2025
Satuda Qureshi grew up in Afghanistan knowing that, as a girl, many opportunities would require persistence and determination. From an early age, she learned to work hard for her education and future, but the dramatic changes in Afghanistan created barriers that were far beyond her individual control.
Despite these challenges, Satuda refused to give up on learning and personal growth. She continued searching for opportunities to strengthen her knowledge, remain connected to education, and build skills that could help her move forward.
Through educational and empowerment opportunities, she gained greater confidence, practical knowledge, and a stronger sense of direction. Her journey reflects the resilience of many young Afghan women who continue to pursue education and opportunity despite difficult circumstances.
